I joined Health Minister Sharon Hodgson to officially open Mansfield’s brand-new Community Diagnostic Centre at Mansfield Community Hospital.
Up to 100,000 tests will be carried out at this new facility each year, including MRI, CT scans, X-rays, endoscopy and blood tests – an important step in taking pressure off King’s Mill Hospital, and lowering NHS waiting lists in Mansfield.
Opening Community Diagnostic Centres like this one in Mansfield is a step towards a more community-based NHS – moving diagnostics back into local settings. This will mean shorter waiting times, earlier diagnosis of serious conditions and care closer to home.
The Government has just invested an additional £237 million into CDCs, which will see 4 new Community Diagnostic Centres open and 17 expanded across England.
This is what rebuilding our NHS looks like in practice: patients getting better care, closer to home.
